Waste Management
Whatever we decide to label it -- rubbish, trash, waste,
refuse, or garbage -- the piles keep growing. It comes from homes, schools,
businesses, factories, and other places; it is generated by people of
all ages. As hard as we try to reduce and recycle large amounts of waste,
we will still have some left to be disposed With industrialization and
urbanization, the problems of waste disposal have increased many folds.
We must re-educate ourselves to realize that waste is a resource that
should be managed. High population density, intensive land use for residential,
commercial and industrial activities led to adverse impact on the environment.
Across the nation, waste management laws are being enacted and communities
are developing plans for better management of their garbage. Management
of waste requires a comprehensive plan. It will take the right combination
of options to meet each community's needs.
Climate Change
Climate change is when the average long-term weather
patterns of a region are altered for an extended period of time, typically
decades or longer. Examples include shifts in wind patterns, the average
temperature or the amount of precipitation. These changes can affect
one region, many regions or the whole planet.
Climate changes are caused by changes in the total amount of energy that is kept within the Earth's atmosphere. This change in energy is then spread out around the globe mainly by ocean currents as well as wind and weather patterns to affect the climates of different regions.

Some initiatives on green economy have taken place in Nepal, albeit mainly in the forms of dialogues and seminars on the subject. The National Planning Commission, with support of the Poverty Environment Initiative Programme, has organized a few discussion programmes on the subject in recent years. Different non-governmental organizations and the private sector have also organized dialogues on the subject. Among others, these dialogues and seminars have helped spur the debate on what a green economy means for Nepal, which are the sectors that could potentially contribute to a green economy and hence need to be promoted, and what roles different stakeholders should play in Nepal’s pursuit of a green economy..
Nepal has enormous and low-cost solar energy resources. The solar potential in Nepal is 50,000 terawatt-hours per year, which is 100 times larger than Nepal's hydro resource and 7,000 times larger than Nepal's current electricity consumption. Solar can easily meet all future energy needs in Nepal.
